Because I can’t help myself, I’m just devoting the whole week’s worth of devotionals to my thirtieth birthday. M’kay?

We started on Monday, as we looked to the big day. Yesterday was the big day and what a day it was. Today we reflect on the day after your birthday and consider how, birthday or not, every day you wake up is the first day of the rest of your life.

That’s a cheesy old saying, I know, but it’s totally true. Every day we live is a blessing given to us by God. We are not guaranteed another opportunity to do something as taken-for-granted as “waking up.”

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

James 4:14

With that in mind, every one should live, not only with the mindset that this is the first day of the rest of your life, but also we should live as though this day is the last day we have to live. Because it very well could be.

If that’s our attitude, we won’t worry about growing old. We won’t worry about the future. We will focus our energy to make sure we spend this day faithfully in the sight of God. If we’re not Christians, we become Christians TODAY. If we’re not faithful, we repent TODAY.

We prepare, not for tomorrow, but for eternity, TODAY.

Because there may not be a tomorrow.

Think about it,
have a great day!
