Yesterday we looked at some words by Peter, used to describe false teachers…

These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

2 Peter 2:17-20

To summarize: they offer only empty promises. They are clouds that hover over a dry landscape, but instead of offering rain, they blow on by.

Satan is a great promise-maker. From the beginning he has offered false hope and big talk. Remember the whopper he told Eve in the Garden: “If you eat the forbidden fruit you will become like God.”

Wrong. When they ate the fruit, Adam and Eve became like Satan!

As Jesus says “He’s been a liar from the beginning” (John 8:44). He’ll say whatever he has to in order to convince you to walk away from the salvation Christ offers. He will promise you freedom when really he only offers chains.

And if we fall for his lies, we will spend eternity in Hell with him, while he laughs at us and taunts us with how easily he deceived us. If pleasure is what we want, Satan will promise it. But in the end…we get nothing.

Don’t fall for it!
